What we believe
Some of our key beliefs can be summarised as follows:
- that God is Maker and Ruler of everything, and has complete control over our nation, families and future.
- in the full and final authority of the Bible as the revealed Word of God & that God speaks clearly to people through His Word
- In the virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, His sinless life, His atoning death as the ground of our salvation, His resurrection on the third day and His ascension into glory,
- that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to live and work in the lives of all who follow Him, to change them to be more like Jesus.
- That salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone, the only mediator between God and people
- that God binds people together into a supporting, sharing, trusting and purposeful community (the church) under His leadership.
What’s this about Living Water? Charlestown Presbyterian Church exists because 2000 years ago a man called Jesus made some amazing claims and showed them to be true. For one, he claimed to be God come in the flesh. He also claimed that we could only know God if we put our faith in him. And he claimed that if we came to him we would never go thirsty.
Let’s face it, a lot of us are thirsty for all sorts of things: a feeling of being loved, a sense that what we do matters, a reason for living. Many Australians try to quench their thirst for these things in their families or jobs or pleasure or money. The problem is we keep feeling thirsty. But our real need is to know God and be forgiven for the shameful way we’ve treated Him.
Jesus offers to quench that thirst, the desire to be accepted by God and be part of His Kingdom forever. Our church is here to help people to put their trust in Jesus for the first time and to grow in their relationship with Jesus. We hope that everything we do fits with this central purpose.
